JP2-MC

The tenets of the JP2-MC:
Education. Inspiration. Motivation. Training.

Students who desire to give of their time and talents while at the same time making the connection meaningful, have the opportunity to join the JP2 Mentoring Club, or JP2-MC as it's affectionately referred, a club established by a UIC alum in 2006.

Our staff works hard to diligently choose service and mentoring programs that not only meet a need in the Chicago community, but provide a connection and learning experience for the students to take with them long after their years at UIC.

At the JP2-MC, students are encouraged not just to serve, but to understand the greater social problems that exist. Students are called to become engaged in the process of service and to continue their journey as Christian servants long after graduation. This service is expressed both in community service and mentoring and within the university itself with partnering underclassmen with upperclassmen to assist in graduate retention.

So as members participate in a variety of social and educational service opportunities, responding to the needs of at-risk Chicago youth, they are also provided with the insights to the long term benefits service-mentoring can provide.

Student recruitment has been 100 percent through word of mouth support from other students, and is typically 500 students each year, providing close to 3000 hours of service. Individuals who join JP2-MC are quickly exposed to recent developments in mentoring methods, including research and application, further empowering them to take what they learn and apply it to their experience.

Each year through the service they have completed,
Scholarship Opportunities are also available to students to help pay for the costs of college,
