| Jesus Sanchez - March for Life |
|
Jesus Sanchez Have you ever looked down the road and seen your future? What do you see? A family? A home? Many cars? A successful life? These dreams are great and are shared amongst us all; unfortunately many children do not get the chance to dream. You see, before they know it some children are removed from their mother’s womb because the American government allows it. According to the government there are many “justifications” for abortion unfortunately the “justifications” are simply masking the atrocities that happen before and after an abortion. Sadly, abortion has haunted the United States since the passing of Roe v. Wade (1973) and ever since its approval many Americans have gathered in our nation’s capitol and have marched against taking the lives of the innocent. As a Roman Catholic student, I felt the calling to join forces with my fellow Pro-lifers in order to fight for the rights of the unheard. Upon arrival in Washington D.C., as a group we attended mass at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception where the Catholic community prayed to end abortion. I had never seen such a great building and such an attendance to mass. An approximate 15,000 followers of the Catholic faith were in attendance praying and chanting together as a family. As mass had ended, preparation for the march the following day began. Having experienced the celebration of the Eucharist with the masses was indescribable but seeing hundreds of thousands of people marching through the streets of Washington D.C. was a “bone chilling” experience. I can recall going up a hill and looking back and seeing a sea of people from many different races, religions and different parts of the United States and the World fighting for the same cause. Not only were we all marching but we were all singing hymns, chanting, holding picket signs and praying as the united family of God. Recalling the experiences I had at this massive event to end abortion, it makes me wonder why abortion is even legal. In my opinion, abortion is murder but our politicians have found ways to skew the atrocities of abortion and make it a viable mode of riding of an unwanted pregnancy. It is also important to note that it is great that many individuals can join together to fight against abortion however, we must not give up our fights from home. There are many ways to fight abortion, but the most important mode of doing so is by praying to the LORD that he spare those individuals of making such decisions. As I recall the march and looking at all the signs held up by the different people, one phrase has been engraved in my mind ever since. The particular sign was being held by a little girl on her father’s shoulders and read, “It only took one man to change the world” and had the background image of the prayer footprints. This image whenever I think about it makes me hold back tears even two weeks after the March for Life and has inspired me to spread the word against abortion among family and friends. |
