Welcome Fr Michael Hoyt!

It is a great joy for me to be a part of the Newman Team! As a new member, I would like to introduce myself and express my joy of having this opportunity to serve here at the John Paul II Newman Center. My name is Fr Michael Hoyt and I am originally from Indianapolis, Indiana. I say “originally” because I have had opportunities of living abroad in France and in several locations in the USA. But before I explain too much about my recent past, allow me to give a wider picture of my distant past. I am the sixth child of a family of nine. I am blessed with a wonderful family, memories jam packed with the joys (and difficulties!) of belonging to a large family, many experiences in the out doors (camping, out doors sports, canoeing, my preferred sports), and extensive travel. Much more can be said, but I will spare you the details.

As for my recent past, I entered a religious order thirteen years ago which is based in France. My studies and initial pastoral experience were done in central France. I was ordained a priest in 2005 and since then I have worked in a parish in France; I have served in various ministries in Laredo, Texas; Spent a few months in Geneva, Switzerland, and am now adjusting to big city USA (Chicago). I am eager to experience ministry in a university setting with the many opportunities that this affords. I hope to add, in a humble but effective way, to the mission here at John Paul II Newman Center by living and proclaiming the Good News of Jesus to the students, faculty and staff of UIC.
