| Cardinal's Mass Reflection |
|
On February 18, over 200 students from all over Chicago came together to worship at the Annual Cardinal’s Mass with College Students. Joining together at DePaul University's St. Vincent's Church, students celebrated mass with Cardinal George and seven other priests including University of Illinois at Chicago’s own Fr. Tim Fiala. This Mass was a visible sign of the growing resurgence of faith that is happening on college campuses across the city. It demonstrated how despite the constant bombardment of immorality and criticism, the Catholic faith among many college students remains strong. The Cardinal’s homily emphasized the task set before us. He said, “We [all] have mysteries to share.” With this in mind, he encouraged all of the college students to work to create an environment where God is not a taboo subject, and an environment that works to help all people come to know and embrace the Catholic faith. It is this mission, laid out before the students, that I see slowly transforming the UIC campus. At times, this mission seems daunting and impossible, but as the Cardinal said, just as Noah built the Ark one piece at a time, so must we on our own campuses. |
