Koinonia Reflection

Kelsey Hug, Sophomore

Koinonia is the Greek word for “community,” and it is also the name for our retreat.  It takes place at many different colleges and universities across the country, and we recently started it here at UIC.  The retreat is student-run, and based upon the Paschal Mystery.  As one of the organizers, we work to put together talks and activities that relate to our Catholic faith.  A large focus of the retreat is community building, and for me, this focus was the best part of the retreat.   I learned a lot about my faith while meeting tons of awesome and inspiring people in the process.

I feel very blessed to be part of the team putting on Koinonia this semester.  It is an honor to share my own experiences and faith with other students at UIC.  Through the months that the Koinonia team has spent planning for the retreat, I have gotten to know my community at the Newman center on a whole new level.
